Happy New Year! I hope 2011 was everything you hoped it would be and that 2012 will be even better.

We've got some great stuff going on this month, including Dark Ascension preorders and prereleases! In addition, we're starting up Legacy once a month again, so be sure to come to the first on this Saturday. Keep reading for all the great info.

Legacy Tournaments


Yay! Legacy Tournaments! We'll be running these on the first Saturday of every month for the foreseeable future, starting this week. All of them will be standard Legacy rules, $5, and start at 12:30pm.

Angry Birds Tournament

Modern Themed Tournaments continue! This month the theme is Angry Birds. Your deck must have 20 birds in it, you may not use Stoneforge Mystic, and you may have a maximum of 3 swords in your deck. Other than that, please just make sure you follow the Modern rules.

Format: Modern, with extra rules above

Dark Ascension Prerelease(s)

Dark Ascension releases next month, so get ready for the best party in town here at Epic! That's right, it's time for the Midnight Prerelease again! We're also running 2 other Prerelease events on Saturday.

Main Event

Date: Friday Night/Saturday Morning January 27/28
Time: Midnight
Cost: $28 without dinner, $32 with dinner
Format: Sealed, 3 Dark Ascension, 3 Innistrad
Prizes: We have the BEST prize support in town-everyone is guaranteed at least 1 more Dark Ascension Booster as prize, even if you come in last place. We also give more than that down to almost half. In addition, we'll be running Bounties again, so you have additional chances to win prizes between every round-things like Fat Packs, Intro Decks, Playmats, Sleeves, Boosters, and lots more!
 
Saturday Sealed

Can't make the Midnight Tournament or want to play again? We'll be running a sealed event Saturday morning as well.

Cost: $25
Format: Sealed, 3 Dark Ascension, 3 Innistrad
Prizes: Depends on attendance, but they'll be awesome, of course.

This is a tradition now, and one of the funnest ways to play with the new cards.

Time: 7:00 pm
Cost: $20 each player
Format: 2 HG Sealed, 4 Dark Ascension, 4 Innistrad per team to make 2 40-card decks
Prizes: Everyone who plays will get at least one booster of Dark Ascension as prize. More boosters to the top teams.
Teammates: Bring a partner with you or we'll pair you up here. Totally up to you.

Dark Ascension Preorders

It's that time again! Time to get a great price on an amazing new set. Sign-ups are in the store for Fat Packs, Intro Decks, and Booster Boxes for Dark Ascension.

The set releases Friday, February 3rd, and we'll be at the store at midnight Thursday night/Friday morning to hand them out to everyone who wants to stay up that late.

Epic Puzzles & Games Utah County

We are opening a new Epic Puzzles & Games in partnership with Jordan Bird! The new store is located at 785 E 200 S Ste 1 in Lehi just off the Main St Exit from I-15--in the Macey's shopping center. Stop by for the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, December 7 at 10 am, and join us for the Grand Opening Celebration December 9 & 10 (Fri/Sat) from 9am to 9pm. Free hot chocolate and candy canes, and free t-shirts to the first 50 people.

Can't wait to see you there, and make sure to tell all your Utah County friends!

Santa Tournament

December's themed tournament is, of course, Santa. The requirements for the deck follow:

4 copies of Santa--your big red fattie must be humanoid and red and cost 5 or more to cast.

8 different reindeer--the animals pulling your sleigh must have 4 legs and be, well, animals.

12 elves--3 sets of 4, 12 different ones, any combination thereof...as long as you have exactly 12 elves, no more, no less.

The rest of the deck is up to you.

December 17th, 12:30 pm, Modern legal cards, $2 entry.

All the good boys and girls will be there!

Commander Tournament

 It's that time again! The end of another Commander season. The final Commander season-play night is Tuesday, November 29th. Then you get a week off to do whatever (deck testing, perhaps?), and the tournament is on Tuesday, December 13th! You don't have to have played in the League to join the tournament, but you do need to register your General, so as to avoid any duplications.

Last month was crazy with the new set, Innistrad, coming out, and hopefully this month will be even better! We'll be having Brandon Sanderson and Dan Wells back to play Magic with their fans, and we'll also be running a Grand Prix Qualifier this week! Check out the articles below for more information on these events and more.

Grand Prix Qualifier

We're running a Grand Prix Qualifier this weekend! If you win, you get advantages in the actual Grand Prix event. There is a Grand Prix coming up in San Diego on November 12 & 13 this year, and they're running a bunch in other countries too (for more info go here).

Time: 12:30pm
Format: Extended
Cost: $5

Top placers (should be top 8, but Wizards couldn't confirm it for me, sorry) get an invitation to the Grand Prix event. First place gets 3 byes in the event!

Our favorite authors are coming back to Epic! Brandon Sanderson and Dan Wells will be Drafting with fans and customers at the store on October 22nd (Saturday). We will have more details for you as they become available, so check the calendar or magic tabs on our web site.
